Physiotherapy Treatment

What is Physiotherapy Treatment?

Physiotherapy is a health care profession where the therapist performs an extensive assessment or evaluation of the patient's impairment(s) in order to establish the diagnosis, and to develop a treatment plan or program. The assessment may include the patient's health history, observation of movement patterns, evaluation of pain levels, and tests for joint range of motion, strength, reflexes, sensation and cardio-respiratory status. As part of the assessment, the therapist may also look at relevant X-ray images, lab tests, medical records and surgical notes. The goal of physiotherapy is to enable you to live an independent, healthy and active lifestyle, to promote health and to prevent disease.

The benefits of physiotherapy include:

Increased joint range of motion, muscle strength, flexibility, coordination, endurance, cardio-respiratory status, and balance and proprioception

Decreased pain

Increased function

Improved quality of life

After a treatment

Sometimes after a physiotherapy treatment, you may feel light headed, or sore. Light headedness may happen after prolonged lying on your stomach or back during the treatment. Soreness happens due to work on the muscles and increased blood flow to the area that was treated. These symptoms should not last more than a day. If the symptoms persist, please contact your physiotherapist immediately.
